Have a Vision

By Anne Keckler | January 30, 2008

I always encourage my clients to have a vision. According to WellcoachesTM, a vision should define

Look three months into your future and think about what you want to look like and feel like, and what kinds of behaviors you will be engaged in. What kind of person do you want to be?

Now consider why this is important to you. What are the values that you hold dear that make this vision important enough to you that you will actually stick to it? If you want to look good, but you consider that vanity, you are unlikely to pursue the goal of looking good. Think about your deepest values, and how they can motivate you to pursue your vision.

Some people want to be healthier so they can be a good role model, or so they will live a longer life, or so they can have more energy to do things with their children or spouses. Some people want to have the strength and health to remain independent into their later years. There are as many reasons for getting fit as there are people, and every reason is just as valid as every other reason, as long as it’s the most honest reason for you.
